It’s the art.
Or at least the thought of it.
A concept for a new kind of architecture, the concept for which has the title Art of Building Works.
The concept has been around since the mid-20th century.
In the mid 1990s, architect and urban designer Gertrude Bell used the concept to design a building for the National Trust for Scotland, an organisation that supports the conservation of Scotland’s national heritage.
She then used the design to create a number of structures including a memorial park, a parkland in the north of Glasgow, and the Ballysullan, an open-air pavilion at the north-west end of the city.
The project, which became known as the “Ballysulla”, has been a huge success and is still used in Scotland today.
However, there has never been an architectural equivalent of the Blysulla.
This is where the Art of Blysi comes in.
Blysi was the name given to the first two phases of the project, one of which was designed by Bell and the other by her husband and the former director of the National Museums Scotland, John Kelly.
Bell and Kelly are also involved in the new art project.
“We are designing an entire piece of the landscape,” Bell told us.
“It’s like an architect’s dream of a new city, and I don’t think any other architect has done that.
I think it’s a really unique vision.”
The Blysisal is the first of a series of buildings to be built to create the Art, Art of Architecture series, a programme of events and exhibitions aimed at showcasing some of Scotland´s best architectural talent.
The theme of the programme is Architecture, Art, Architecture, with an emphasis on the architecture of Glasgow and Glasgow City.
Bell said that her inspiration for the Bliesulla was the city´s existing architecture and she wanted to create something that was completely new, with a different perspective, and a different way of thinking about it.
While Bell and Kelly worked on the initial conceptualisation, they also took part in the design phase of the art project and contributed to the project as part of a team of designers and architects.
Art of Building works will be the third phase of a six-year project that has already included an open design competition, a new exhibition, and other collaborations.
Bell hopes the Art and Art of Buildings will have an impact on Glasgow´s architecture, with the public viewing the work as part, and if they like it, supporting the project.
Bell told us that the idea came from a desire to create an open space for people to enjoy.
It’s a place where you can see all the different parts of the architecture, but you can also go inside and see the work, or even get a peek.
“You can get to know what it is about this building that you don’t know,” she said.
“I wanted to be able to show the architecture and the concept through the art and art of the building itself.”
Art of Blessi will be at the Edinburgh Festival of Ideas from February 13 to 20.
