The architecture competition is part of the National Institute of Architectural Research (NIAAR), which has been planning a project to develop a new kind of architectural model to be used for building houses, roads, and cities.
The challenge is to design a new architecture that “uses the human form in its own unique way” and that “reflects the values and ideals of its time,” according to a press release.
The new architecture would be “in harmony with its surroundings, the environment, and the natural world.”
The project is being run by NIAAR, the Indian Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, and is called the “New Architecture for India.”
The challenge is being held in four phases.
The first phase is a design contest.
The next phase is the construction phase.
The third and fourth phases are for architectural consultation.
The final phase is for the public presentation of the new architecture in 2021.
The deadline for submissions is September 2021.
The NIAR is hoping that the competition will “show that Indian architecture can be both innovative and practical,” according the press release, and encourage the country to get behind the concept of “modernity.”
The Indian government is also hoping to use the competition to promote the country’s engineering skills.
“This is a major initiative by the Indian government to encourage innovation and develop the country as a hub for innovation, and we look forward to working with the community in the coming years to develop innovative and innovative solutions for the needs of the people,” NIAAAR chief Rajesh Chandra told The Hindu newspaper.
